Spencer turned 12 a few days before we left Colorado. Because we knew our whole family was going to be together, we decided to wait for him to be ordained to the Priesthood til we could all be together.
For those who may not understand what all that means, in our church, we believe that the Lord has given the Priesthood to men on earth today. To hold the Priesthood means the authority to act in God’s name. Basically to serve others and strive to bless them as God would if He were here himself. There are different levels or “offices” in the Priesthood and the responsibilities associated with each office increases as the office you hold changes as you get older. When a young man turns 12, he is old enough to receive the Priesthood. It’s called the office of a Deacon. And when he receives or is given the Priesthood, it is given by someone who holds a higher office of Priesthood, usually his father, who gives a blessing. Its called an ordination or being ordained.
Spencer was ordained to be a Deacon by Adam while we were in Utah. We invited our family and some of our close friends to be there for it after church on Sunday. It was a special day for Spencer, Adam and I, and we are so grateful for those who came to be with us to show their love and support!
I’m so proud of Spencer and the wonderful Young Man he is! He LOVES being a Deacon and tells me it all the time. Passing the Sacrament, collecting Fast Offerings and going to his Church meetings has helped him to understand the importance of the Priesthood and increased his testimony. I’m so blessed to have him as my son!
