12 years ago today (February 9th) I lost my first pregnancy. I was 17 weeks along and had gone to the dr. for my monthly check up. Thankfully, that day, Adam had come with me. He'd never come to an appointment before that but his schedule that day was open and I wanted him to hear the baby's heartbeat. I look back on his being with me that day as one of the Lord's Tender Mercies. The doctor couldn't find a heartbeat so Adam and I were sent directly over to the hospital for an ultrasound. The technician didn't say anything but we both knew. We could see on the ultrasound that there was no heartbeat. For a young newlywed couple expecting their first baby, we were devastated! What would I have done had Adam not been with me at that appointment. I truely don't know and know with all my heart that the Lord was watching over me. Each year, on this day, I think of that day, and a little bit of saddness always comes. At the same time though, a feeling of comfort comes as I realize that another Tender Mercy of the Lord is His ability to help us heal.
Tonight as I write, my thoughts turn to my dear sweet friend Lynette. This evening, February 9th, she called to tell me that her sister Marla passed away after fighting Stage 4 Breast Cancer for the past 3 1/2 years. I can't even imagine the saddness that Lynette and her family are feeling. 12 years ago I felt saddened by the loss of an unborn baby. Tonight, Lynette's family is saddened by the loss far greater than mine. Their sister, daughter, wife, aunt, and mother. My experience of loss and saddness could never compare to what they are going through, but the Tender Mercies of comfort and peace from the Savior can. Through the past few years Lynette has shared with me the journey Marla has been on as she has fought tooth and nail for every minute she had left. So many Tender Mercies from the Lord are evident; she was aloud to spend a few more years with her children and husband, to see them grow, to know them and for them to know her. She was able to pass comfortably into Heaven while surrounded by her family. Everyone there was able to say goodbye to her. Through her life and especially her illness, she was able to touch the lives of numberless people, her friends, family and even total strangers followed her experiences (see www.caringbridge.org/visit/marlalynch). As one who read her blog, my life has most certainly been touched. Anyway, I know Marla's family has received even more of those tender mercies than I've mentioned here and I'm so glad to know that we have a Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, who knows each of us. Regardless of religion or color or gender, they know each of us and when we are faithful, they bless us. I know the Savior will bless Scott and Lynette and Marla's husband and children and all of their family. I know that in time, the Savior will be able to help their hearts heal and they will somehow be able to move on. I know that though the saddness will never completely be gone, that somehow, it will lessen and somehow they will be able to find joy once again. I know that the Lord gives us His Tender Mercies as evidences that He knows us, He knows our needs and most of all as evidence that He loves us!
Lynette, I love you! You are in my prayers! I know the past few years have not been easy for you, but I know you are a strong woman of God and that with His love and the love of all who around you, you, Scott, the girls and all of your family will be stronger than ever before!
